Testimonial From a Guest
"I consider the Governor Shulze House my home away from home. I make it a point to stay there each and every time I'm in the area. Entering the majestic foyer of the fully restored Victorian-era mansion is like stepping back in time. The only thing more impressive than the home itself is the staff and their commitment to providing an enjoyable stay. HISTORY
John Andrew Shulze retired to Fairfield Township following his 1823-1829 term as Governor of Pennsylvania. Shulze bought 500 acres in western Fairfield Township, now part of Montoursville for $12,000. His plan was to spend his retirement farming in the West Branch Susquehanna Valley. He built a brick house on his farm, however Shulze's time farming can be described as a failure. His repeated attempts at farming were unsuccessful. Due to a lawsuit his property was seized and sold to pay the debt. The Eck family then bought the home and resided there for many years. As of 2007, Schulze's Montoursville home is the Governor Schulze House Bed and Breakfast.
